Position Overview
The Assistant Community Liaison Office Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the Community Liaison Office at the U.S. Embassy to Kenya. You will work closely with the CLO Coordinator to strengthen community morale and address the diverse needs of Foreign Service families and staff. This position manages eight core responsibility areas: family member employment, crisis management and security, education, communications and outreach, guidance and referral, welcoming and orientation, community liaison, and events planning.
Key Responsibilities
You will serve as an essential support resource for CLO clients, independently developing materials, programs, and advocacy initiatives while identifying community needs and delivering responsive programming. You will gather information, connect people with resources, and generate creative ideas for community-focused events. When the CLO Coordinator is unavailable, you will assume full responsibility for all CLO functions, making this an excellent opportunity to expand your professional impact.
Experience Requirements
You must bring a minimum of three years of professional experience in administration, office management, customer service, program management, or public policy. At least two years of university or college-level studies is required.
Essential Knowledge
Strong understanding of the Foreign Service structure and federal government operations is critical. You should be familiar with program management principles and have working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Understanding of the Department of State's CLO programs, policies, and the Eight Areas of Responsibility is essential for success in this role.
Required Skills and Qualifications
You must demonstrate Level III Good Working Knowledge English proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are non-negotiable, along with proven ability to work effectively in teams. The ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure environments while maintaining strong judgment when handling sensitive matters is important.
You should have hands-on experience in data collection and report writing. Strong networking capabilities that allow you to build relationships across local business, education, and service sectors will serve you well. Discretion and professional demeanor when communicating with U.S. Direct Hires, Eligible Family Members, and all organizational levels from local staff through Ambassador-level officials are essential.
