SOKIFY JOB POSTING Position: Data Center Technician Employer: Oracle Location: Nairobi, Kenya ABOUT THE ROLE Oracle is seeking a hands-on Data Center Technician to join the infrastructure operations team in Nairobi. In this onsite position, you'll be instrumental in maintaining the reliability and performance of Oracle Cloud infrastructure around the clock. You'll tackle real hardware challenges—from rack and stack installations to component replacement and cable management—while working alongside experienced engineers and senior technicians to keep critical systems running smoothly. This is a dynamic role that combines technical troubleshooting with meticulous documentation and operational discipline. You'll respond to incidents, support equipment deployments, and contribute to a culture of safety and continuous improvement. The position includes rotating shift schedules and on-call availability as required. WHAT YOU'LL DO Execute hands-on hardware support in production data center environments, including fault diagnosis, component replacement, and basic troubleshooting workflows. Assist with installing, configuring, and testing data center equipment such as servers, structured cabling systems, and supporting infrastructure. Perform preventive maintenance activities including firmware updates and system health checks according to established procedures. Respond promptly to incidents and service requests, documenting all actions and escalating issues appropriately to senior team members. Handle network and structured cabling tasks involving fiber and copper patching, proper labeling, and effective cable organization. Maintain accurate inventory records of hardware components and spare parts, supporting audit activities and disciplined asset tracking. Adhere to standard operating procedures while actively suggesting operational enhancements that strengthen safety, quality, and efficiency. Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams across shifts, communicating clearly to keep operations moving forward. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR Minimum two years of direct experience working in data center environments such as operations centers, colocation facilities, hyperscaler platforms, enterprise data centers, or comparable critical infrastructure roles. Practical hands-on experience with server hardware and standard break/fix procedures. Working knowledge of Linux fundamentals including basic command-line operations and troubleshooting techniques. Solid understanding of data center ecosystems encompassing cooling systems, power and electrical concepts, networking fundamentals, and structured cabling standards. Ability to work rotating shifts in an onsite operational setting with flexibility for on-call requirements. Demonstrated commitment to attention to detail, accurate documentation, and consistent process adherence.
