FIXED NETWORK & OLT OPERATION ENGINEER ZTE KENYA ABOUT THE ROLE We're seeking a skilled Fixed Network & OLT Operation Engineer to join our team at ZTE Kenya. In this position, you'll be the backbone of our broadband access network operations, managing critical infrastructure that keeps our connectivity services running smoothly. You'll combine technical expertise with hands-on problem-solving to ensure network stability and optimal performance across our PON systems. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES You'll oversee daily monitoring, operation and troubleshooting of our fixed broadband access networks while managing network resources, lines and equipment to maintain reliable service delivery. Your technical expertise will extend to the complete deployment lifecycle of OLT, splitter, ONU and other PON access devices, including data configuration, version upgrades and service commissioning. When network issues arise, you'll be the first responder identifying and resolving PON network faults such as OLT uplink anomalies, PON port failures, user disconnections and network stuttering, working efficiently to close fault tickets and restore service. You'll maintain comprehensive fixed network resource documentation, handle optical path planning and port resource allocation, and keep network topology diagrams and equipment files current. Supporting our expansion is part of your mandate. You'll enable new residential area and enterprise private line projects through OLT site activation, cutover testing and service verification. Regular equipment inspections will be your responsibility, monitoring network performance indicators, optimizing bandwidth during congestion periods and eliminating equipment risks while generating insightful operation analysis reports. Your technical support extends to our field installation and maintenance teams and enterprise clients, helping them overcome challenging commissioning issues. You'll also implement network security protocols, manage equipment access controls, establish standardized procedures and maintain detailed commissioning logs and operation records. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR You should hold a college diploma or higher qualification, ideally in Communication Engineering, Electronic Information, Network Engineering or a related discipline. Your technical foundation must include solid familiarity with PON fixed network architecture and proficiency configuring and commissioning mainstream OLT devices from manufacturers like Huawei, ZTE or FiberHome. You'll need at least one year of hands-on experience in fixed broadband access network operations, maintenance or commissioning, with demonstrated capability in independent OLT activation and fault diagnosis. Your knowledge base should encompass IP networking fundamentals including VLAN, DHCP and routing principles, plus understanding of optical splitter links. Beyond technical skills, you must read network topology drawings accurately, localize faults rapidly and conduct thorough post-failure reviews. You should be comfortable with emergency on-call responsibilities and shift work requirements for network breakdowns. Strong documentation abilities matter—you'll create resource ledgers, commissioning plans and fault handling records regularly. Prior experience with telecom operators, system integrators or communication equipment manufacturers gives you an advantage. Professional certifications such as HCIA, HCIP, ZCIE or equivalent communication credentials are highly valued additions to your profile.
