PUBLIC WORKS MAINTENANCE WORKER I
City of Poquoson

The City of Poquoson's Public Works Department is actively seeking a dedicated and hands-on Maintenance Worker I to join our team. ABOUT THE ROLE
You will perform intermediate semi-skilled and manual work focused on the construction, maintenance and repair of public facilities, buildings, grounds, streets and utilities. No two days will be identical in this physically demanding role, where you'll work under moderate supervision and tackle a variety of essential tasks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct general infrastructure maintenance on streets and drainage projects
Load and unload gravel, dirt, timber, chemicals and other materials, tools and equipment
Spread asphalt, patch street surface holes and assist with concrete work
Dig trenches and ditches while cleaning catch basins, manholes and drainage lines
Perform street and utility maintenance duties alongside custodial, building and grounds work
Mow grass, edge sidewalks and curbs, weed trim, and prune trees and shrubs
Complete additional duties as assigned
WHAT YOU BRING
High school diploma or GED with moderate experience in infrastructure maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Working knowledge of streets, drainage systems, buildings, grounds, utilities and landscape maintenance and repair procedures
Familiarity with safe operation and preventive maintenance of assigned equipment
Strong ability to understand and follow verbal instructions
Capacity to perform manual labor consistently, including in unfavorable weather conditions
Competence in reading and writing
Skill in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds. You will regularly stand, speak, hear, use hands for handling and perform repetitive motions. Frequent walking, sitting, reaching, pushing and pulling are required. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling are needed. Close vision, distance vision, focus adjustment and depth perception are essential.
