RESEARCH ANALYST - KENYA Laterite, a leading data, research, and analytics firm headquartered across eight countries including Kenya, is seeking a Research Analyst to join our growing Nairobi office. This role is exclusively open to Kenyan nationals. ABOUT LATERITE Since 2010, Laterite has partnered with world-class institutions including the World Bank, the Mastercard Foundation, and TechnoServe to tackle complex development challenges through rigorous research and data-driven insights. With operations spanning the Netherlands, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, and Peru, our team of 90+ staff members and 2,000+ field enumerators is committed to creating meaningful impact by maintaining strong local presence and building lasting community relationships. OUR KENYA OFFICE Our Nairobi team, established in 2018, comprises 14 dedicated professionals working on diverse projects spanning education, public health, and agriculture. We maintain a lean, trust-based organizational culture where you'll enjoy autonomy in your work while remaining accountable for results. You'll support a dynamic range of activities from mixed-methods studies to full-cycle research implementation, all while operating in a collaborative, fast-paced environment that values problem-solving and continuous improvement. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES Supporting Research Projects You will assist with ethical approval processes and research design, develop research instruments, and conduct both quantitative and qualitative data analysis. You'll contribute to client-facing reports and presentations while maintaining regular communication with clients and internal teams about project progress. Managing Data Collection Your technical expertise will extend to coding survey instruments using SurveyCTO and other Open Data Kit platforms. You'll collaborate with field teams to create training materials, facilitate enumerator training sessions, and conduct field visits to monitor and enhance data collection quality. Ensuring Data Quality and Analysis You'll implement data monitoring, cleaning, and validation protocols for incoming survey data. Working directly with field teams, you'll identify and resolve data quality issues, support statistical analysis, and contribute to high-quality consultancy reports backed by rigorous data-driven insights. Contributing to Business Development (Optional) If interested, you may participate in business development initiatives through proposal development or proactive client engagement. YOUR BACKGROUND Required Qualifications A completed Master's degree in Economics, Public Health, Development, or a related field is essential. You must have at least one year of professional experience in related work, which may include internships, dissertation research, or academic research group participation. You'll demonstrate strong quantitative data analysis capabilities with demonstrated proficiency in Stata. Fluent written and spoken English is required for this role. Preferred Qualifications Experience with ODK-based platforms such as SurveyCTO, prior work in Kenya, and strong organizational and interpersonal skills with demonstrated self-motivation are highly valued. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT You will develop expertise in technical research design methodologies including sampling and impact evaluation approaches. You'll strengthen your project management and client communication abilities while advancing your data analysis and statistical coding skills. Mastery of consultancy-quality report writing and professional presentation of findings will complete your skill development. WHAT WE OFFER Competitive Compensation: Monthly gross salary ranging from Ksh 260,420 to Ksh 539,498 based on experience and interview performance, plus medical insurance, pension contributions, and 21 days annual leave. Learning and Growth: Annual professional development budget of USD 1,000 per employee and 10 days yearly dedicated to professional learning activities.
