SURVEILLANCE NETWORK CLINICAL COORDINATOR - AFRICA About This Opportunity Labyrinth Global Health, a women-owned organization at the forefront of infectious disease protection, is partnering with the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) to expand life-saving surveillance operations across Africa. WRAIR operates a sophisticated network of laboratories across four continents, with the WRAIR-Africa program conducting critical infectious disease surveillance and research throughout the U.S. AFRICOM Area of Responsibility, encompassing Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, and other nations prioritized for force health protection. The Role We are recruiting a Surveillance Network Clinical Coordinator to establish, standardize, and sustain infectious disease surveillance operations across WRAIR-Africa's growing network of sentinel sites. You will serve as the critical technical bridge between Principal Investigators, Country-Specific Program Managers, and clinical and field staff deployed throughout the region. This position ensures consistent, high-quality surveillance practices while maintaining scientific rigor and regulatory compliance across all operational sites. Based in Nairobi, Kenya at WRAIR-Africa headquarters, this full-time, exempt role involves regular travel throughout the AFRICOM Area of Responsibility. What You'll Do You will establish and maintain a coordinated network of sentinel surveillance sites in partnership with Ministries of Health, research institutions, and universities. You will oversee all aspects of sample, specimen, and vector collection processes, ensuring activities meet scientific case definitions under IRB-approved protocols and comply with project requirements. Your responsibilities include monitoring surveillance activities, identifying opportunities for new site establishment, and sustaining existing operations with appropriate frequency adjustments. You will ensure sample and specimen collection throughput meets performance standards across all network sites and maintain the master surveillance database with rigorous attention to data quality. Working closely with Principal Investigators, you will communicate processes and timelines for protocol development, approval, implementation, and maintenance. You will advise on protocol content, assist with drafting research protocols and amendments, and support routing through institutional review boards and other approval bodies. As the clinical point of contact for standardizing field and clinical operations, you will coordinate closely with Country-Specific Program Managers and senior leadership. You will also contribute to knowledge products generated from surveillance and research work, including peer-reviewed publications, in accordance with organizational clearance requirements. What We're Looking For You bring strong understanding of infectious disease surveillance methodology, clinical protocol management, and multi-site field operations. You excel at coordinating effectively across geographically dispersed teams and understand IRB processes, human subjects protection requirements, and Good Clinical Practice standards. You are detail-oriented, organized, and thrive in complex operational environments requiring consistent quality assurance. Minimum Requirements You must have at least two years of experience managing infectious disease laboratory and field work. A bachelor's degree is required in biomedical sciences, analytical chemistry, applied sciences, public health, nursing, or a relevant social science discipline. You must obtain or already hold clearance for access to Department of Defense networks or systems, requiring a favorable Tier 1 National Agency Check with Written Inquiries background check or local national equivalent criminal history check. Willingness to travel throughout the AFRICOM Area of Responsibility, including within and outside the continental United States, is essential. Preferred Qualifications Advanced credentials including a Master of Public Health degree or equivalent are valued. Five or more years of field surveillance experience, particularly coordinating multi-site infectious disease surveillance networks in Sub-Saharan Africa, distinguishes exceptional candidates.
