Job Description
FULLTIME FACULTY, CONSULTANT UROGYNAECOLOGIST
Organization: Aga Khan University
About the Role
Aga Khan University's Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology invites applications for a Fulltime Clinical Faculty position specializing in Urogynaecology. This is a dynamic opportunity to deliver specialized clinical care while shaping the future of women's health through education, research, and service development.
The successful candidate will establish and lead comprehensive Urogynaecology services, delivering expert surgical and nonsurgical interventions for women experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction. Beyond clinical practice, you will mentor the next generation of medical professionals, conduct meaningful research, and collaborate across disciplines to advance women's health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
You will independently assess, diagnose and manage women with pelvic floor disorders and related conditions across the full spectrum of care. Your clinical work will include performing reconstructive pelvic surgery, continence procedures, fistula repair and other interventions within your scope of practice. You will order, interpret and utilize advanced diagnostic tools including urodynamic studies, cystourethroscopy and specialized imaging.
As an educator, you will teach, supervise and formally assess both Obstetrics and Gynaecology postgraduate residents and undergraduate medical students in various clinical settings, providing structured training in Urogynaecology surgical techniques. You will lead the strategic development of Urogynaecology services across multiple platforms—ambulatory clinics, urodynamic diagnostics and pelvic floor rehabilitation programs—ensuring alignment with departmental and institutional priorities.
Your role encompasses establishing multidisciplinary partnerships with colleagues in urology, colorectal surgery, physiotherapy, radiology and geriatrics to optimize care for complex cases. You will facilitate informed decision-making through comprehensive patient counseling and shared decision-making approaches. Research contributions are essential, including conducting clinical investigations, publishing in peer-reviewed journals and maintaining departmental audits and outcome registries.
Additional responsibilities include developing clinical policies and evidence-based protocols, participating in quality review processes and governance activities, and contributing to on-call commitments and departmental meetings as determined by the department chair.
Qualifications and Experience Required
You must hold a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or internationally recognized equivalent. Postgraduate qualification must include a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or equivalent recognized credential, followed by formal fellowship training or equivalent subspecialty recognition in Urogynaecology or Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery.
Current registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) with specialist recognition in Obstetrics and Gynaecology is mandatory, or you must be eligible for such registration. You must demonstrate a minimum of two years' clinical experience at the specialist level, with an established history of independent Urogynaecology practice. Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics certification is required.
You should have documented experience teaching and supervising postgraduate trainees and medical students. While desirable rather than essential, evidence of active research engagement and peer-reviewed publications will strengthen your application.
