REGIONAL THEMATIC SPECIALIST (HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE AND RECOVERY) International Organization for Migration POSITION OVERVIEW Join the International Organization for Migration as a Regional Thematic Specialist focused on Humanitarian Response and Recovery. In this pivotal role, you will serve as a key technical advisor operating under the Deputy Regional Director for Operations and the Regional Director, working in close coordination with the Department of Humanitarian Response and Recovery at our headquarters. Your primary mission centers on translating institutional policy into effective action across our Country Offices throughout the region. You will be the driving force behind quality assurance and thematic excellence, ensuring that all humanitarian programming remains evidence-based, consistent, and impactful. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Guide and oversee the implementation of humanitarian response and recovery initiatives across multiple country operations, maintaining rigorous quality standards throughout execution. Provide specialized thematic expertise that strengthens programmatic coherence and effectiveness in all humanitarian interventions. Work collaboratively with other Regional Thematic Units to establish thought leadership in three critical areas: saving lives and protecting people on the move, developing innovative solutions to address displacement challenges, and creating legitimate migration pathways that respect human rights and dignity. Champion quality programming grounded in evidence and data, ensuring that all regional humanitarian efforts meet the highest institutional standards and contribute meaningfully to IOM's mission. Support Country Offices with technical guidance, capacity building, and strategic oversight to enhance their humanitarian response capabilities. Contribute to regional strategy development and help shape organizational approaches to humanitarian crises and displacement situations. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED Strong professional background in humanitarian response, recovery operations, or related fields Demonstrated expertise in migration, displacement, or humanitarian program management Excellent analytical and strategic planning capabilities Proven ability to provide technical guidance to multiple stakeholders across organizational hierarchies Strong communication skills with ability to influence and advise senior leadership Experience working in multicultural, complex organizational environments
